Body Image, Media Influences, and Situational Dysphoria in Individuals with Visible Physical Disabilities

Body image in individuals with visible physical disabilities appears to be an important area of research and investigation, which has received little attention over the years. The purpose current descriptive, cross-sectional study was investigate relationships between body construct, possible media influences on satisfaction, self-esteem, novel variable situational dysphoria disabilities. One hundred fifty-four men women responded measures interest. Results indicated that appearance weight-related anxiety, pressures from media, internalization thin ideal were significant predictors dysphoria. Additionally, when controlling for type disability, females face more difficulties concerning only some variables These findings have implications practice regards screening measures, education healthcare professionals, as well intervention rehabilitation programs.
